Instructions:

1. Download and installation

Please note that you have to download ALL maps before you connect to the custom servers, to avoid problems with the autodownload system.

For new players, I have prepared a mappack with all the 4 maps in one big zip (including the sub directories base/ and base/megatextures), so it can be unzipped directly into the ETQW game folder. The zip can be downloaded here:

The total size is 120MB but the server is on a good network with around 200Mbs of free bandwidth so it shouldn't take that long to download.

If you already have some of the maps installed you can download the rest individually from the map threads, see links below.

2. Preparation

There is a couple of small things you should be aware of: Due to a problem in 1.4, the client may reset your settings if you have a default player profile selected. Another problem is that it may disable Punkbuster on first connect. The best way to avoid both of those probs is to save your settings to a file, and even better use autoexec.cfg to run your settings automatically. So - at least save your settings, if you have a lot of them.

Also be aware that the client will restart when you connect to a custom server - this is normal, and you will quickly get used to it. Note that in some cases you may also see more restarts during map changes, but this should not happen on sundays event, since we are running in campaign, and without any mods.

3. Connect to the custom servers

This is simple - just enter the ip address/name in the "direct connect" field, or run the connect command from console. The servers are:

EU: ICE Custom Server, ip= etqw.nett.org (operated by me)
US: Hack House, ip= hacked.org (operated by Langley)

We will start on the EU server, play at least 2 x 4 maps (should take an hour or so), and then move over to US for those who want better ping from there. You can check the status of both servers on Splatterladder:

There are also many other custom servers out there, and hopefully there will be more events including more custom servers (and maps) in the future.

The map rotation will be:

Sky - Comm Link - Meltdown - Artic Assault

For a quick description of the maps, I'm stealing some content from an earlier post by Hozz:

Sky (close to final): a map consisting of only Jump Pads floating in the air, just like the good old Quake 3 maps! But nontheless 5 objectives to do, aimed at smaller scale (6v6) battles.

Comm Link/(Beta): GDF must infiltrate a Strogg Fort and blow up their stuff, map is aimed at smaller battles (infantry only - 3v3, 6v6,...). With bot support!

I still have to download sky but then I'll be able to go probably rofl its at 3:00 for me. Gotta go buy some new shoes first!
